FIRST IMPRESSIONS

♦ VISUAL
His build is lean and athletic, standing approximately 5'9" (1.8m) and weighing around 125lbs (56kg). His hair is white, generally messy-spiky, reaching between his shoulder blades in length. His eye colour is dark mahogany, his complexion fair-to-pale.

Bakura's choice of clothing is casual/comfortable, usually jeans or similar paired with either t-shirts or buttoned shirts, usually a jacket, and functional shoes or light boots. He typically avoids anything that's too fitted or restrictive, preferring looser and lighter materials. Although he is always wearing the Millennium Ring, usually it is tucked under his shirt and not immediately visible.

♦ DEMEANOR
Bakura's personality is not one that most people would warm to quickly: he alternates between sly and snide, has a penchant for cutting remarks when making a point or putting someone down. He seldom speaks about his bloody past in casual company, which sometimes clashes with his habits of integrating aspects of Ancient Egypt into every day behaviour.

He might be incorrectly noted as a misanthrope, however he doesn't hate people so much as he hates dealing with stupid people (at least in his opinion; if he's not using it to his advantage). He's been charitably described by the friends he has made as "a prickly cactus".

Past the initial off putting stage however, Bakura can be an interesting acquaintance. He has a wicked, if dark, sense of humour, and he enjoys bantering with others who can match him for attitude and wit. Those rare few who do make a strongly positive impression on him find themselves inducted into an extended family unit, and subject to being defended or avenged if the situation called for it.

♦ MENTAL/MAGICAL INFORMATION
If your character is sensitive to magic AND/OR souls, especially those of a dark/evil/twisted variety, Bakura's going to show up like a metaphorical beacon. Even though his soul is no longer as intertwined with Zorc's as it once was, that evil (and his own) literally saturates his whole being.

They will likely also be able to sense the 99 Kul Elna ghosts which accompany him (see section on them below) - these ghosts may also provide some interference (like static), though not an infallible barrier - to mental incursions by telepaths/etc.

DETAILED INFORMATION

The Host [ Habit ]
Bakura sometimes will maintain two personas: known in public and in visual/verbal contact to play the part of his host, Ryou Bakura. This means that he would be acting as Ryou would, being exceedingly polite and friendly, and generally displaying all traits of the teen's in everything from speech style right down to food preferences and handwriting. He's had many years of doing this, so there shouldn't be any discernible abnormalities.

Petty Theft [ Habit ]
Bakura is and always will be a thief and that can range anything from picking pockets in the hallways to breaking into people's rooms and stealing their stuff. If you're interested in having some stuff filched, let me know! It'll always be cleared beforehand with the player(s) involved and for the most part, he will be willing to trade/sell it back to them as long as it nets him something advantageous.

Bring Your Dead [ IC Trigger ]
Due to his past, Bakura is extremely sensitive to topics such as the afterlife; not to be confused with death, he's definitely not shy about dying or killing. This will give him an aversion to things like angels, shinigami, deities, etc. Achieving the afterlife for the Kul Elna spirits is his driving goal and the only reason he's still alive (and determined to stay that way) so anything which challenges that -- whether in theory or in action -- will potentially put them on a blacklist.

Shattered Soul [ Metaphysical ]
Bakura's soul is in a horrible, mangled stated. In addition to being bound to the Millennium Ring, he's literally torn it to shreds over the course of the last 3000 years, so to those who can view it, it seems very disjointed and with large portions missing or cobbled together with basically dark magic, spiteful rage and pure goddamn stubbornness. It's also tainted quite badly with what most people will perceive as "evil", but perhaps surprisingly, it's not completely overtaken by it.

THE MILLENNIUM RING

♦ BACKGROUND
One of the seven Sennen/Millennium Items that were forged in Ancient Egypt. The official wikia covers a great deal of its background and abilities but the general outline: the Ring and other items were created through a dark magic ritual in which 99 people had their bodies boiled down, mixed with molten gold, and cast in a mold.

Stealing the Ring is impossible and doing so and then attempting to wear it will result in, literally, your soul being burned out of you -- fire out of the mouth and everything. The Ring has a tendency to return to its owner, whether they want it or not and it can be obtained two ways: by winning it from its owner fairly in a game, or by given it.

♦ ABILITIES
• seal/unseal souls
• start up dark games (etc)
• act as a compass and find whatever the owner wants (etc, etc)
• react to magic/supernatural stuff (it glows and chimes) (etc)
• use some magic force to shove people around and hold them in place (kind of like telekinesis?)

NOTE: None of these will ever be done without prior communication and consent of any/all affected players!

SHADOW REALM SUMMONING

♦ BACKGROUND
Bakura can summon Shadow creatures to the physical plane, even if he is not in possession of their card in his deck, based on the ability to have summoned his ka and other creatures in the ancient past. The ability was never generated by the Ring, only augmented by it (he was summoning Diabound well before he stole the Ring from Mahaad).

This ability still follows set rules however, which mimic the rules which Pegasus translated into the modern version of Duel Monsters. In order to summon more powerful monsters still requires "tribute" fodder, meaning he can't simply pull out a top level monster off the bat; each "move" still follows the basic guidelines of "turns" and rules.

Spell/Trap cards are a bit different in that their effects are taken more literally instead of being turn-based. An example of a Spell/Trap summon would be Gust which would actually produce a blast of air at an opponent. Spell and Trap cards require less magical energy to use (since their effects are either instant or for a set amount of time/"turns") but they also follow stricter summoning rules -- Bakura can't simply declare a card and have it work, it needs to fit the scenario he's in or nothing happens. (Or worse, the wrong effect happens and he gets hit with the backlash.)

All effects disappear immediately if Bakura is knocked unconscious or simply runs out of energy.

THE KUL ELNA GHOSTS

♦ ORIGIN
The "shadow alchemy" used to create the seven Millennium Items as outlined by the Tome called for 99 sacrifices, however it only required the physical components and so their souls were cast off during the ritual. They're not bound to the Items themselves but they are connected to them, however mostly they "reside" attached to Bakura's own soul. At this point they're also no longer 99 separate souls, but they've kind of condensed into one collective consciousness.

The ghosts can be sensed by anyone who has extrasensory perception, especially by anyone who has a familiarity with spiritual matters. They don't speak so much as they impart certain feelings and reactions. If they're angry or happy or frightened, Bakura will be able to tell. But they don't communicate in words or images, and they rarely make themselves known to anyone other than him. They listen to him (and his various incarnations, even Ryou to an extent how could you resist that cute boy?) and obey Bakura when he asks them to. So moving on to...

♦ ABILITIES & WEAKNESSES
The ghosts are basically poltergeists, able to move/push/pull/grasp things including immobilizing people; it's possible but difficult to shake them off. Being non-corporeal gives them great spatial awareness and they can sense things coming and warn Bakura -- however they're also kind of scatterbrained, so they don't generally do this unless he's asked them to, meaning he doesn't rely on this very often. They can create an impenetrable shield around an object or person, as they did when Bakura ordered them to shield Diabound from the other attacking kaa.

They could shield Bakura himself or anything that Bakura wanted protected (but not both at once -- they can't split.) They have the ability to attack and devour souls which does strengthen them, but also leaves them vulnerable during the actual attack. Bakura can also absorb them into his body for a gigantic power boost. He did this to strengthen Diabound in canon, but it would greatly augment his own Shadow Magic if he took them into himself. However this temporarily binds them to his body which means if he's killed, so are they. (Or maybe "dispersed" is more accurate since they're already ghosts.)

♦ OTHER

DIABOUND

♦ ORIGIN
Bakura's ka or spirit-monster from Ancient Egypt, the creature has five "evolution forms" with increasingly stronger powers, although the form it normally occupies is that of a small winged white snake, with its latter forms appearing more humanoid.

It's notable that when Diabound first appears in the Palace before Atem and the Priests, they all recognize it as a "holy ka", that is, the beast of a theoretically pure soul, leaving them aghast as to how someone "a mere thief" like Bakura can possess it. Bakura answers that this is due to his absolute loyalty to his cause.

Diabound's innate offensive ability is a blast of swirling energy called Helical Shockwave, but its true strength is in its ability to absorb the attacks of other creatures it defeats, and in this way has also gained powers such as concealing itself invisibly and moving through solid walls or objects, among others.

Its form and strength are also directly tied to Bakura's mental state, specifically his capacity for anger, hatred and revenge, and its power is also increased by the presence of the Items. Its fifth form is only attainable under Zorc's possession, though Bakura does not often require Diabound to move past its third form in battle.

ZORC NECROPHADES

♦ ORIGIN
The big bad of the series, Zorc is described as a "Great Evil God" who was created out of the darkness of people's hearts. His powers stem from darkness itself, to which Zorc claimed that there was virtually no limit, and he also claims (in the dub) to have been the creator of the Shadow Realm.

Although he is presently "dormant" in game, those with the ability to sense such things will likely feel Zorc as a pure evil force, separate (and yet linked) to Bakura himself.
